Love Shopping? Love Saving?
Here you will find a few helpful tips to make your shopping experience even better!
Know your kid’s sizes
Spend some time before the sale trying last falls clothes on your
children. Have they really gone up a size, or are they still about the
same? What size do you think they will be wearing next February/March
at the end of the winter season?
It is much easier to shop if you do not have your kids with you.
However, this can make the “size” question tough. But we have seen
several people come up with some clever ideas. Some shoppers bring a
cheat sheet with their kid’s sizes listed on it. Not only that, but
many folks bring the measurements instead of sizes. This can give you a
more accurate information since companies all size so differently.
Handy measurements include: length from back of neck to hem (dresses),
length of stride, pants length, waist, and chest. And bring a tape
measure! These measurements will not help you without being able to
measure the new clothes.
We have another mom that traces her little girl on the floor and
shops with her “flat daughter.” This way she can make sure the lengths
of things will work. This also works well with shoes.
Some people have brought clothes from home to hold up next to the
ones we sell. If you plan to do this, you will need to "check" your clothes before you enter the sale area.
Take inventory
Hopefully, when you were getting your things ready to sell, you had a
chance to see what your children already have in their closets. Decide
what you need. Do you need school clothes? Church clothes? Holiday
clothes? Play clothes? Do you need more dresses, pants sets, sweaters,
coats, or separates? Are you looking for matching outfits? Is your
little one going to be potty training over the next 6 months? Sometimes
it can be overwhelming, so go with a plan.
Bags:
2nd Helpings now sells wonderful over sized shopping bags. These bag are perfect for consignment sale shopping... or the beach, SUV, sports... YOU NAME IT!!! These bags will be used over and over again for a multitude of purposes!
Use the OOPS Rack
We totally understand that you may change your mind on some items.
At 2nd Helpings, we ask that you either put these items back where
they belong or put them on our “Oops Rack.” This rack is for this very
purpose. Often other sales have these racks too. Please do not put your
rejects on tables, odd racks, chairs, or the floor. Think about the
clothes you are consigning…. would you want them piled on a table in the
back corner instead of the rack where shoppers can see them?
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I price my items?
This is up to you and your experience with consignment sales. Think
about what you would pay for this item if you were the shopper. We do
strongly suggest you let your items go half price on Saturday, this will
increase the chance that it will sell. Keep in mind that this is a
church consignment sale.
I need to change my drop off time, what should I do?
Email Erin Jones at Hope2ndHelpings@gmail.com and let her know your original drop off time and your new drop off time.
I need to bring my items in two trips, is that okay?
Yes, that is fine. Please plan to bring them beginning at your allotted time.
When can I expect to receive my check after the sale?
You should receive your check and tax donation letter within two weeks of the sale.
I'd like to volunteer for the sale or I need to change my volunteer schedule, who should I contact?
Log into your My Consignment Manager Account and click on the
Volunteer tab at the top. Select from the available positions or make
changes to already scheduled shifts. If you need childcare (or need to
cancel childcare), please contact Erin Jones. Click here to email her.
Can I bring my stroller and child(ren) to the sale?
Yes, you may bring your children to the sale but we strongly urge you
to keep them off the toys and from under the clothes rack. We allow
strollers Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
We have a hold area for items you plan to
buy but need a place to put them while you continue shopping. You may
keep them in the hold area for 1 hour.
